Toilet Roll Holders

Most homeowners tend to use simple roll or bar toilet roll holders in their bathrooms as these are both easier to install and aesthetically pleasing. It is a good idea to try and mirror the shape and style of the rest of fixtures in bathrooms when it comes to picking loo roll holders.

Towel Rings & Holders

Towel Rings & Holders

When selecting towel holders, it is important to remember the size of your family and thus the number of users. Larger families will find holders with several rails or arms especially useful. Additional hooks or rails that mount on the bathroom door are a useful additional option. If you are short on cupboard space in your bathroom, an attractive and useful feature is a hotel style rack, where clean rolled or folded towels can be stored, ready for use. A simple ring or hook for a hand towel close to the sink is invaluable. Freestanding traditional or contemporary towel rails are another useful option, particularly if you want to add storage to an existing bathroom without the need for wall fitting.

How to Select The Right Mirror

Bathroom Mirrors

As a rule, the size of your bathroom's mirror will depend on the size of your vanity countertop. A common mistake that people make when they shop for rectangular versions is to choose one that is the exact width of their vanity. This creates a box-like look that cheapens your bathroom's design and decor. Try to find a rectangular model that is between two and four inches narrower than your vanity countertop for best results.

The next thing to consider should be its height. The fixture should be no taller than the vanity it hangs above, and it should hang on your wall at just above the eye level of the tallest person in your home. You should also take into account the height of your bathroom's ceiling; a mirror that is flush to a vanity countertop and leaves several feet of wall between it and the ceiling looks strange, but one that is too close to the ceiling will make your bathroom look cramped. This mostly applies to rectangular mirrors, but it also goes for oval-shaped or circular models.

Types of Bathroom Mirrors

Once you know how big your bathroom mirror should be, it's time to consider the type you want. You can go with a basic framed one if you care more about function rather than form, but even with these, you need a frame that fits with your decor. You can also opt for a frameless option if you want it to have a modern "floating" effect as it hangs on your bathroom wall.

Of course, there are also plenty of other bathroom mirror styles available if you want something fancier and more elaborate. Here are some of the styles you should consider if you want your mirror to transform your bathroom.

LED Mirrors

As their name suggests, LED mirrors use LED lights to add a soft glow to a bathroom mirror. These lights can serve a practical function by making it easier to see your reflection for your morning hair and makeup routine, but the lighting they provide is usually softer than what you might get from a light bulb in a light fixture. These are ideal if you want to give your bathroom a soft yet modern look.

Infinity Mirrors

Infinity mirrors are mainly used for decoration, but they can be used to make a small bathroom look a little bigger. An infinity model uses a fully-reflective and a one-way mirror to create a series of reflections that appear to stretch across an infinite distance. They often contain LED lights so that the effect is more visible. They can still work just fine as bathroom mirrors but are usually more decorative than functional.

Magnifying Mirrors

These are generally more about function over form, but they are perfect for finer tasks such as makeup application, shaving or putting on contact lenses. As functional as they are, there are still plenty of magnifying mirrors that look stylish enough for modern bathrooms, so don't think you're making a boring choice by buying one. These are especially good when you don't want to hang one directly on your bathroom wall.

Demister Mirrors

If you have a problem with steam in your bathroom, consider a demister mirror. These use heated anti-mist glass that prevents steam from building up and obscuring your mirror. With a demister mirror, you won't have to wait as long for the mist on the mirror surface to go away after taking a hot shower. Simply activate the demister and wait just a few seconds.

Backlit Mirrors

If you want to improve the visibility of your mirror while giving your bathroom some softer lighting, backlit mirrors are the way to go. They are similar to LED mirrors in that they have their lighting, but have a slightly softer glow and less conspicuous lights since they are placed behind the mirror.

Toilet Brush & Holders

Toilet Brush & Holders

We all know the importance of keeping the toilet clean and hygienic. The toilet brush and holder duo is designed to keep your toilet sparkling and brush out of sight once the job is done. Toilets brushes are simply ideal for cleaning the insides of the toilet bowl. The roll holder, on the other hand, is as important as your car or house keys making it incumbent upon us to avoid its misplacement. The selection of these accessories is equally important as its placement and invites a few considerations worth pondering over. The dimension of your bathroom, to begin with, would dictate on the choice of the size and the type of holder to be installed along with the kind of installation best suited for a given scenario. Family composition plays an equally important role, especially young children, and pets, in determining the type of TP orientation to prevent wastage.

Wall mounted holders are the most visible in most washrooms and have become the preferred choice in the small bathroom segment as they contribute immensely in spatially challenged environments from a functional perspective with strategic mounting. Freestanding holders are equally good and offer the advantage of flexible placement within the WC area. Toilet caddies, a variant in the freestanding category, have become increasingly popular with medium-sized and big bathroom owners, as they offer mental peace and calm with storage space for toilet rolls reserves and bring an air of leisure by accommodating reading material such as magazines, books, and newspapers.

Manufacturers are at the forefront to deliver designs and finishes to match contemporary tastes employing an amalgam of materials and finish to produce astonishing items finished in chrome, brass, and nickel; there are improvisations to suit classic setups as well with the use gold finish, wooden material and form elements.

Grab Bars

Grab Bars

There are many different types of grab bars available for purchase, including:

Straight Bars- These are wall-fixed bars that run in one direction. You can fix them in a horizontal or vertical position, or at an angle.

Angled bars- These are wall-fixed bars set at an angle. The top portion is usually fixed in a vertical position. The lower, angled part acts as forearm support, enabling you to distribute your body weight through your forearm, which may be helpful if you have weak hands and wrists.

Floor to ceiling bars- These are vertical bars that run from floor to ceiling. You can position them on the outer edge of your bath to provide support when you are turning yourself round or stepping in or out of the bath.

System bars- You can put these bars together to provide customised support over a large area. They attach to your walls and can be ordered or cut to your desired length.

The Finish

The finish of the grab bar is important both from an aesthetic point of view and for the grip surface it provides. Many different types of finishes are available, including:

Polished/chrome finish: This finish is attractive, but can be slippery to hold, especially when your hands are wet.

Paint/epoxy/plastic finish: This finish provides a warmer feel than a polished finish, making it less susceptible to condensation. This type of finish is available in a range of colours, so if you have low vision, you will be able to choose a grab bar in a colour that contrasts with that of your walls.

Slip resistant/knurled/ribbed finish: This finish provides extra grip, even when your hands are wet. However, it may feel uncomfortable if you have sensitive hands.
